We are a non-profit corporation in the State of Washington that was formed to provide care for those who do not healthcare insurance, or those with high deductibles or large copays. We want to provide an affordable option to obtain healthcare.
Teresa Marshall, ARNP grew up in Spokane and moved to Puyallup area in the late 80s due to the bad economy and to pursue becoming a physician's assistant. Being told by Medex Northwest that she needed more hands on experience and independent decision making, decided to become an EMT. She was hired in a local fire department as the first and only female firefighter. Being the first female, there were many of the firefighters that did not want her as part of their team. They set out to prove she was not qualified to be part of the department although she had passed all the tests that they created. They decided to fire her stating that she did not have enough strength and stamina (note: they paid her a large sum of money later).
During the discrimination lawsuit she was told by her lawyer to continue taking civil service tests. She decided to take a civil service test for the Tukwila Police Department. She had no desire to be a police officer, but it was a civil service test. She was hired and served as a patrol officer and finally as a detective. One night she interrupted a car theft at my home and managed to get beaten up by local gang members. She did not want to experience that again. That same time the police department decided that all the detectives would need to be sent back to the street.
She decided to give notice and pursue her love for medicine that started when she was a medical assistant early in her life. A few years later she got her masters in nursing and was certified as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. Six months after graduation she opened her own practice in Pierce County. She had a private practice for eight years. Wanting to make a bigger impact on the healthcare nursing shortage she started teaching at Tacoma Community College Nursing Program.
She has a heart for missions. In her off time she has lead teams to Haiti, Mexico, Nicaragua and Columbia. In Haiti she developed a curriculum for "Village Healthcare Workers" based on "Where There Is No Doctor". She serves as a mission leader in a local church and is the leader of the Disaster Relief team.
Her heart is for transparency in healthcare. She believes that giving a patient all the options and letting them choose is the best way to provide healthcare that works. She wants to re-establish trust in the healthcare system by educating patients how to work with their own immune system to fight disease.
Recently Teresa has become a certified Nurse Health Coach in her constant desire to improve the health of her patients and has training in functional medicine which has opened a new avenue to address autoimmune diseases without the side effects of the immunosuppressants that ,most providers turn to.
